Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the changes in the cafe, but it fails to provide a clear, analytical overview. While it identifies some features, the description is fragmented and lacks a professional tone. The summary of the 'main features' is weak, as it focuses on listing items rather than highlighting significant structural changes or spatial reorganisation. The comparison between the two plans is superficial, and the lack of a clear overview paragraph means the response does not meet the requirements for a high-level summary. To improve, focus on grouping information logically (e.g., structural changes vs. new facilities) and providing a concise summary of the most notable transformations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in the cafe before redesign' and 'in the cafe today'. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the spatial descriptions are disjointed and lack clear referencing. For example, phrases like 'down of bin' are confusing and do not effectively guide the reader through the layout of the cafe. Improved use of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') and better paragraph transitions are needed to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of non-standard word choices, such as 'remoderalised' (likely meant 'remodeled') and 'attract' (used incorrectly as a noun). The range of vocabulary is limited to simple nouns and verbs, which restricts the ability to describe the changes with precision. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to spatial descriptions, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'transformed', or 'adjacent to'. The current vocabulary is just enough to convey the basic meaning but lacks the flexibility required for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as 'The structure presented below shows a college cafe which was remoderalised it previously', where the inclusion of 'it' is redundant. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect spacing. The range of sentence structures is limited, relying mostly on simple, repetitive patterns. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using more complex structures like relative clauses or passive voice correctly to describe the changes in the cafe layout.
