Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided images show layouts of a college cafe before and after redevelopment of the entire place.
Overall, the cafe seems to be well-furnished and organized by incorporating more dine-inn area after the place underwent renovation.
At a glace on the old cafe plan, it looked quite simple as it had less facilities. Previously, the top most left corner had kitchen and a serving table for all sort of beverages and food items. Furthermore the central part of the cafe had dinning rooms for their employees divided into two sections and right lower corner had washroom and garbage bin.
However, the newly designed cafe is more elegant after adding a barbecue table and outdoor seating arrangement. Also there is now a salad bar between the kitchen and barbecue center for healthy food options and the central area is now filled with tables and chairs which was empty before. Moreover, the staff dinning in now converted into take-way counter and coffee bar and the bins are replaced by recycling ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe layout changes, including the addition of the salad bar, barbecue area, and the conversion of the dining area. However, the description is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. To reach a higher band, you should focus more on comparing the spatial changes rather than just listing them. For example, noting that the central area transitioned from a staff-only dining space to a more open, customer-focused seating area would provide a stronger overview. The summary is clear, but some details, such as the specific location of the washroom, are less relevant than the overall functional shift of the cafe.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Moreover' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'the place' or 'the old cafe plan'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the 'before' and 'after' states. To improve, ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother by varying the cohesive devices and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to the previously mentioned nouns.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'renovation', and 'arrangement'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'dine-inn area' (should be 'dining area') and 'take-way counter' (should be 'takeaway counter'). Additionally, 'At a glace' contains a spelling error. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on accurate collocations and avoiding informal phrasing will help improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'had less facilities' (should be 'fewer facilities'), 'all sort of beverages' (should be 'all sorts of beverages'), and 'staff dinning in now converted' (should be 'staff dining area has now been converted'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and pluralization.
