Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the addition of the outdoor area and the reconfiguration of the interior spaces. You have successfully identified the key changes, such as the salad room and the conversion of the staff dining area. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise comparisons between the 'before' and 'after' states. For instance, mentioning the removal of the central hallway or the specific relocation of the kitchen would provide a more comprehensive overview. The summary is generally accurate, but some details, such as the 'barbecue' zone, could be described with more clarity regarding its exact location relative to the original layout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the general layout to specific modifications. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'The new setup', which help guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'The new setup has been expanded and a complete new zone (barbecue) has been built on'. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring that referencing is consistent would help the text flow more naturally and elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'amenities', 'configuration', and 'premises'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'A entirely new section' (should be 'An') and 'less facilities' (should be 'fewer facilities'). Additionally, phrases like 'built on' and 'house multiple outdoor seating area' are slightly imprecise. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise descriptive language for spatial relationships—such as 'adjacent to', 'situated in the corner of', or 'transformed into'—would enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'A entirely new section' contains an article error, and 'less facilities' is a quantifier error. You also have issues with pluralization, such as 'two separate section' (should be 'sections') and 'outdoor seating area' (should be 'areas'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'The serving area has now been changed to hot meals', which lacks a clear preposition or verb to describe the transformation. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
