Student answer (Band 6.0)
* Writing Task - (1) map
The maps illustrates the changes in the todays cafeteria with respect to the cafe before redesigning it.
Overall, it can be observed that the internal structure of the cafeteria has not entirely disturbed. There are only few changes in the design like extension of the outdoor section and installation of a barbecue.
Firstly, the major change in the cafe after renovating it is the extension of cafe in the outdoor section with a proper seating facilities and a barbecue section on the left-hand side in outdoor area.
As we move inside the cafe, certain changes can be observed. First, in left-hand side a salad bar section has been created. Staff dining rooms undergo major conversion into food take-away section and a coffee bar section. Traditional bins on the right-hand side of the cafe is replaced with recycling bins. The serving area near the kitchen is now turned into a Hot meals section. The indoor cafeteria still have tables and chairs placed in the middle even after redesigning the cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the redesign, including the outdoor extension, the barbecue, and the internal layout changes. It successfully identifies the key differences between the 'before' and 'after' plans. However, the overview is slightly weak; it states the internal structure has 'not entirely disturbed,' which is a vague observation. To reach a higher band, the overview should more clearly highlight the most significant transformations, such as the shift from a staff-focused area to a more customer-oriented food service layout. The report is accurate, but could benefit from more precise comparative language to better highlight the scale of the changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of information is clear, moving from the outdoor area to the internal changes. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'As we move inside,' and 'First' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'renovating,' 'installation,' and 'conversion' used correctly. However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'not entirely disturbed' and 'traditional bins,' which sound slightly unnatural in this context. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, but it lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band. There are no significant spelling errors, and the terminology related to the cafe layout is used consistently throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The maps illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'in left-hand side' (missing article), and 'The indoor cafeteria still have' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent throughout the text. Improving control over basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
