Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 76 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The description of the cafe redesign is extremely brief and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary of the main features or comparisons. Key elements of the visual data, such as the specific changes to the kitchen, counter, or seating arrangements, are largely ignored. To improve, you must provide a more thorough analysis of the changes shown in the diagrams and ensure the response meets the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt to introduce the topic and use a transition like 'To begin with', the overall structure is underdeveloped. The lack of sufficient content makes it difficult to assess the use of cohesive devices or paragraphing skills. To improve, you should aim to structure your report with a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and detailed body paragraphs that compare the 'before' and 'after' states using a wider range of linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'cafe' and 'looks'. There is a lack of precise terminology required for describing diagrams or spatial changes (e.g., 'layout', 'renovated', 'expanded', 'relocated'). The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'for generate more space'. To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to describing changes and spatial arrangements, and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity, such as 'plans about cafeteria in college authorities redesigned' and 'today cafe'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and punctuation is inconsistent, with missing capital letters and improper sentence boundaries. The grammar is limited to simple, often fragmented, structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement and the use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
