Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by describing the changes between the two plans. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the overall expansion of facilities and the shift in layout. While the student identifies specific changes like the addition of outdoor seating and the coffee bar, the description is somewhat disorganized and lacks a professional, analytical tone. Some details, such as the mention of 'toilets' looking the same, are accurate, but the overall reporting lacks the synthesis required for a higher band score. The response would benefit from a more structured approach to grouping features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'To begin with that' and 'In modern map' are used incorrectly, which hinders the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are present but often used in a repetitive or unnatural manner. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes being described. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied and accurate linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'whether they wider the recycling bins' (likely meaning 'widened') and 'make more cleanest area'. The student relies on basic descriptors like 'great vibe' and 'asthetic', which are not appropriate for an academic report. While the student attempts to describe the layout, the lack of precise spatial vocabulary (e.g., 'adjacent to', 'situated in the corner', 'reconfigured') limits the ability to convey information clearly. Spelling errors, such as 'ares' for 'areas', also occur.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency (e.g., 'they changed them and make one coffee bar'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and the use of articles is inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that punctuation is used to separate distinct ideas clearly.
