The given diagrams illustrate the transformation of a college cafe before and after redesign.
Overall, there is a drastic change in the food that is being served. In addition seating arrangements have increased.
Staff dining rooms were transformed into take away food and coffee bar. Hot meals have appeared replacing serving area for all food and drink. In the left side of the cafe a salad bar is introduced. The size of the bin enlarged to recycling bins. Kitchen remained unchanged. The tables and chairs are left the same although some space have been used by salad bar and recycling bin.
Major change in cafe is the introduction of outdoor space for Barbecue and outdoor seating for customers. It is also evident from the chart that there are two extra doors placed to access outdoor atmosphere of the cafe. It is near the toilets and barbecue. In a nutshell, cafe had made the necessary renovation to stand the test of time and to attract number of customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the new food service areas, the outdoor space, and the seating changes. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the 'staff dining room' being transformed into a 'take away food and coffee bar' is accurate, but the report lacks a more precise comparison of the spatial layout changes. The mention of 'hot meals' replacing the 'serving area' is a good observation, but the overall summary could be more analytical by grouping features more logically. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the development of the information is slightly limited, preventing it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas, moving from the internal changes to the external additions. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences could be smoother; phrases like 'In addition' and 'It is also evident' are used, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall flow would benefit from a wider variety of linking words to better connect the comparative elements of the two plans.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes clearly. Words like 'transformation', 'redesign', and 'renovation' are used correctly. However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'outdoor atmosphere of the cafe' and 'attract number of customers', which should be 'attract a number of customers'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic descriptive terms, and some phrasing feels slightly unnatural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'In the left side' should be 'On the left side', and 'some space have been used' should be 'some space has been used'. Additionally, there are missing articles, such as 'size of the bin' instead of 'the size of the bin'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent.
