Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the changes between the two plans, identifying the increase in seating capacity and the addition of new facilities like the salad bar. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes, and the description of the layout is somewhat disorganized. Several details are vague, such as 'new tea were added,' which is not clearly supported by the visual data. The response covers the main features but lacks the precision required for a higher band, as the information is not always accurately reported or clearly contrasted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'on the one hand' and 'on the other hand' without a clear logical flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. The punctuation is inconsistent, with frequent misuse of commas and capitalization, which disrupts the flow of information and makes the progression of ideas feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'change,' 'space,' and 'new.' There are several instances of incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'outdoar seating' (outdoor) and 'new tea were added.' The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the layout changes, such as 'st places' instead of 'seating areas.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'seating capacity were,' 'cafe space were utilized') and tense usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors in syntax and punctuation. There is a lack of control over basic grammar, such as pluralization and article usage. These errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, though the overall message remains decipherable.
