Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign well. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the conversion of the serving area, the addition of the salad bar, and the new outdoor facilities. You also correctly noted which elements remained unchanged, such as the kitchen and toilets. However, the overview is somewhat brief and could be more analytical by grouping the changes more effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the summary highlights the most significant trends or transformations rather than just listing individual changes. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs describing the changes, and a concluding summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally logical, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as the missing space after commas (e.g., 'However most') and inconsistent capitalization, which slightly disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring consistent formatting would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redesigned', 'converted', 'renovation', and 'facilities'. However, there are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'vast different' instead of 'vast differences', and 'facillities' which is misspelled. The phrase 'the cafe has undergoes' is grammatically incorrect in terms of verb form. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, focus on using correct word forms and collocations, and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'The given plans illustrates' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'the old bins was replaced' is also incorrect. There are also issues with missing articles and incorrect pluralization, such as 'table and chairs' instead of 'tables and chairs'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and plural forms.
