Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the barbecue area and the relocation of the coffee bar. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The description is somewhat repetitive and lacks a professional, analytical tone. While the key information is present, the lack of a structured introduction and a clear summary paragraph makes the response feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, ensure you clearly group information and provide a distinct overview of the most notable transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which is a significant issue for coherence. The ideas are presented in a single block, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of changes. While there is an attempt to use basic linking words, the flow is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of logical sequencing. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'the way where to food take away outside', which makes it hard to identify the specific location being described. Using clear paragraphs for different areas of the cafe would greatly improve the logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'many new things', 'beautiful area', and 'the look of cafe is now beautiful' are simplistic and lack the precision required for an academic report. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'touched with walls' instead of 'adjacent to the walls' or 'attached to the walls'. The student relies on basic descriptive language rather than using specific terminology related to floor plans or architectural changes. Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more precise verbs and nouns would help elevate the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The middle area of cafe are same') and tense usage ('The condition of cafe is totally change'). Sentence structures are generally simple and often fragmented, such as 'The staff dining rooms are replaced with coffee bar and the way where to food take away outside'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing articles and awkward phrasing that occasionally impedes readability. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects, as well as using articles (a/an/the) more accurately.
