Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features of the cafe before and after the redesign, such as the addition of the coffee bar, salad bar, and outdoor seating. However, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, professional summary of the overall changes. The information is presented in a fragmented way, and the lack of precise terminology (e.g., referring to features as 'some things') prevents a higher score. To improve, you should focus on grouping information logically—such as structural changes versus facility additions—and use more precise language to describe the layout changes rather than listing items in a disjointed manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'moreover' and 'furthermore' without clear links between sentences. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes described. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the comparison of the two maps.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use informal or vague terms like 'things', 'beautiful', and 'gorious' (likely a misspelling of 'gorgeous'), which are not appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'ranovation', 'caffee', 'roon', 'recyling', and 'barbecus'. To achieve a higher band, you need to use more precise vocabulary related to maps and spatial descriptions, such as 'situated', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'installed', and ensure your spelling is accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The maps illustrates', 'the cafe are'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures. The range of structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with basic punctuation. To improve, you should practice using more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice, which are essential for describing changes in a formal report. Additionally, proofread your work to correct basic errors in verb tense and pluralization.
