Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of objectively describing the visual changes in the cafe plans, the response adopts an informal, subjective tone, focusing on personal opinions about 'Gen Z' and 'gossip'. It fails to identify key structural changes, such as the relocation of the counter, the addition of a seating area, or the removal of specific walls. The response reads more like a marketing blurb than an analytical report. To improve, you must remain objective, avoid personal commentary, and focus strictly on reporting the spatial and functional changes shown in the diagrams.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a logical structure. It is written as a single, disjointed block of text without clear paragraphing to separate the introduction, overview, and specific details. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'We've'. There is no clear progression of ideas; the information jumps between interior design, menu items, and social commentary without a coherent flow. To improve, organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two paragraphs detailing specific changes, using transition words like 'In contrast' or 'Furthermore'.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is repetitive and informal, which is unsuitable for an academic report. Phrases like 'looks more aesthetic', 'gossip', and 'Gen Z Generation' are inappropriate for this task type. There are also several errors in word formation and capitalization, such as 'Deser'ts' and the inconsistent capitalization of 'Colour' and 'Cafe'. The range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptive terms. To improve, focus on using precise, academic vocabulary to describe spatial changes, such as 'renovated', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'transformed', and avoid colloquialisms and subjective adjectives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('Students loves', 'Girls who loves'), incorrect punctuation, and run-on sentences. The sentence structures are simplistic and lack the variety required for higher bands. The use of the first-person plural ('We') is inappropriate for an objective report, which should use passive voice or impersonal structures (e.g., 'The counter was moved'). To improve, practice using passive voice for describing changes and focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that punctuation is used correctly.
