Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the barbecue, outdoor seating, and the reconfiguration of the interior rooms. You provided a clear overview and made relevant comparisons between the 'before' and 'after' states. However, the response could be improved by ensuring more precise descriptions of locations. For instance, referring to the 'southern-west' is slightly inaccurate; 'south-west' is the standard term. Additionally, while you mentioned the kitchen remained 'untouched', ensuring all major changes are clearly contrasted would strengthen the response. Overall, you have covered the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the changes. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Similarly', and 'Additionally' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, such as 'redesign', 'converted', 'constructed', and 'reconfiguration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'tables and chairs were remained untouched' (should be 'remained') and 'size of bin section were slightly increased' (should be 'was'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('tables and chairs were remained', 'size of bin section were'). There are also minor errors with prepositions and articles, such as 'in the corner of southern-west' (should be 'in the south-west corner') and 'at the east side' (should be 'on the east side'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and standard prepositional phrases will improve your accuracy.
