Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the kitchen, seating areas, and new additions like the barbecue and outdoor seating. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the 'past' and 'now' could be more precise. For example, stating 'hot metals' to describe the serving area is vague and does not accurately reflect the visual information provided. The response would benefit from a more cohesive summary of the spatial changes rather than a list-like description of each area.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the description. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving farther', and 'Moreover'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly forced or unnatural. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The paragraphing is appropriate for a task of this nature, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. Phrases like 'hot metals' and 'redesignation of old cafe' are inaccurate and do not convey the intended meaning effectively. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'make broder' (should be 'made broader') and 'more modernize' (should be 'more modern'). To improve, the student should focus on using more descriptive and accurate terminology related to floor plans and architectural changes, such as 'refurbished', 'reconfigured', or 'expanded'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some parts of cafe remains', 'bin area also make broder') and incorrect verb forms ('get introduce', 'has replaced'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. A greater focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and pluralisation would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
