Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the redesign, such as the kitchen, salad bar, and outdoor seating. However, the overview is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, concise summary of the most significant changes. While the key areas are identified, the description of the seating capacity is slightly confusing and could be more clearly linked to the visual data. The response addresses the task requirements, but the reporting of features is occasionally disjointed, preventing it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking transformations rather than just listing individual changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, though the transition between the description of the kitchen and the dining area is somewhat abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are occasionally mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive phrasing 'has been' and 'the one's in between'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from the kitchen to the dining area and then to the exterior, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel a bit stilted. Improving the variety of cohesive devices would help the text read more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe the changes to the cafe. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'siting' instead of 'seating', 'prepraing', 'seprate', and 'bing'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality. While the writer attempts to use specific terms like 'redevelopment' and 'remodelled', the range is limited, and the frequent spelling mistakes hinder the precision of the report. Focusing on accurate spelling and expanding the range of descriptive verbs would improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Two tabels... has seating capicty') and awkward phrasing ('the service addition of taking away your food'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect apostrophes ('one's'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors means that the majority of sentences are not error-free. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction.
