Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the outdoor area, the salad bar, and the conversion of the staff room. However, the description is somewhat disorganized and lacks a clear, analytical approach. While the main features are identified, the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' states is occasionally muddled by informal phrasing (e.g., 'way too sorted'). The overview is present but lacks the precision required for a higher band. To improve, ensure that the summary highlights the most significant spatial changes more clearly and maintains a formal, objective tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. For example, the transition 'In cafe there are some new launches' is awkward, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the expansion in the cafe area is also took place', which disrupts the logical progression. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'new launches' to describe physical renovations, 'perk of replacement', and 'reprocess' instead of 'recycled'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'oudoor' and 'subtitiue'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to spatial changes and renovations, and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The maps illustrates'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'is also took place'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several comma splices where full stops or conjunctions should be used. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
