Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the coffee bar, salad bar, and outdoor seating. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes, such as the overall expansion of facilities. Some descriptions are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as stating the kitchen is in the 'same place' when the layout has clearly been modified. The summary of the 'before' state as 'almost empty' is an overgeneralization that does not accurately reflect the provided plan. To improve, ensure you focus on clear, comparative language and provide a more precise summary of the key transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. For example, 'In addition to, tables and chairs...' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly when moving between the description of the old and new layouts. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', the logical connection between sentences is frequently weak, making the overall progression feel somewhat forced rather than natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'cafè shop' and 'place'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'luck of several facilities' (likely meaning 'lacked') and 'dinging rooms' (likely meaning 'dining'). The term 'take away food' is used to describe a room, which is imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise terminology related to floor plans, such as 'partitioned', 'relocated', 'converted', or 'extended', and ensure that your spelling and word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('there is new area'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward sentence structures ('In addition to, tables and chairs in the center of the cafè shop'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing articles. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
