Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe renovation well. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the conversion of the staff room, the addition of outdoor seating, and the new food stations. However, the overview is slightly generic; it could be improved by mentioning the specific layout shift from a single serving area to multiple stations. While you mention the kitchen and toilets remained the same, the description of the 'top right corner' is a bit vague. Overall, you have addressed the requirements of the task effectively, providing a clear summary of the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into three paragraphs: an introduction, a description of internal changes, and a description of external/additional features. The progression of ideas is clear, and you use cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'As a result' to link your points. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'which was now converted' should be 'which has now been converted'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the renovation, which helps the reader follow the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' states.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the changes, such as 'renovation', 'converted', 'introduced', and 'recycling bins'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'spacious space' (redundant) and 'are still remained same' (grammatically incorrect). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise descriptive language for spatial changes, such as 'relocated', 'partitioned', or 'expanded'. The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, but lacks the sophistication required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'serving area is been replaced' (passive voice error), 'are still remained same' (incorrect verb usage), and 'Another significant changes is' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tenses and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
