Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the kitchen, seating areas, and the new additions like the salad bar and barbecue. However, the description is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes. While the prompt is addressed, the reporting of information is occasionally confusing, such as the reference to the 'L' shape or the unclear location of the bin. To improve, ensure that you provide a clear, concise summary of the overall transformation in the introduction and group related features logically to help the reader follow the changes more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is often difficult to follow due to a lack of appropriate cohesive devices and awkward sentence transitions. For example, phrases like 'On the other part western' and 'Beside on southwest region' are grammatically incorrect and hinder the flow of information. Referencing is also inconsistent, making it hard to track which area of the cafe is being discussed. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensuring clear spatial references would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'good transformant', 'health conses people', and 'make cafe more good'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your description. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to describing changes (e.g., 'renovated', 'converted', 'relocated') and ensure that your word forms are accurate. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will also help you provide a more sophisticated account of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('tables and chairs has spread', 'Toilets has on changed'), incorrect preposition usage, and fragmented sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in basic grammar often distract the reader. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that prepositions are used correctly to describe locations.
