Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the transformation, including the expansion of seating, the addition of the outdoor barbeque, and the repurposing of staff rooms. However, the description of the changes is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision in spatial description. For instance, the mention of 'two entry and exit doors' is unclear, and the summary of the trash bin area is slightly confusing. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping information more logically—perhaps by area (e.g., interior vs. exterior)—and ensuring that all key changes are described with greater clarity and detail, rather than listing them in a fragmented manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. While there is a logical progression, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. The use of cohesive devices like 'In addition to' and 'while' is present, but some transitions feel forced. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the internal structure of the second body paragraph is a bit disjointed, as it jumps between different features without a clear thematic focus. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the changes clearly. You use terms like 'renovation', 'seating arrangements', and 'designated areas' appropriately. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'barbeque is added for outdoors' (should be 'an outdoor barbeque area') and 'more space is for trash bins' (which is slightly awkward). To improve, try to use more precise terminology for describing architectural changes, such as 'converted', 'relocated', or 'extended', and ensure that your phrasing sounds more natural in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'It has is expanded', 'Original layout of the cafe, had', and 'seating have been added'. These errors, while not impeding communication, are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles (e.g., 'the' cafe, 'a' coffee bar). Strengthening your control over basic sentence construction will allow you to better showcase more complex structures without compromising accuracy.
