Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 112 words. This significantly impacts the development of the task. While you identified some key features, such as the conversion of the staff dining room and the addition of the salad bar and barbecue, the description is too brief to provide a comprehensive summary. Several areas of the plans are not described in sufficient detail, and the lack of length prevents a full analysis of the changes. To improve, ensure you describe all major features and provide more comparative detail between the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response uses some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Moving toward further information'. However, the paragraphing is insufficient, and the overall structure feels disjointed due to the brevity of the text. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of detail, making the report feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive summary. To improve, group related information into distinct paragraphs—for instance, one for internal changes and one for external changes—and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'kithched' (kitchen), 'remainded' (remained), and 'barbecve' (barbecue). Phrases like 'By having a cursory glance' are used incorrectly in this context. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'converted' and 'serving area', the range is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility. Focus on learning accurate spelling and using vocabulary that is appropriate for describing maps and diagrams, such as 'relocated', 'extended', or 'transformed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the' is missing before 'college cafe'), verb tense consistency, and punctuation. For example, 'now servers only not meals' is syntactically incorrect and confusing. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and the errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information provided. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common typos. Increasing the variety of complex structures will also help improve your score in this criterion.
