Student answer (Band 7.0)

The diagram illustrates the layout of a college cafe before and after its dedevelopment.

Overall, the cafe underwent considerable modernization, with new facilities being introduced, including a take away food, coffee bar, salad bar, barbecue section and an outdoor dining.However, the toilet and the kitchen reamined unchanged.

Initially, ther main serving area was in the northern side, directly opposite the kitchen. In the new layout, this was converted into the hot meals section. The former staff dining section was divided into 2 sections for the take away and a coffee bar. Additionally, the original bins were replaced with the recyling bins.

To the left of the take away, a new section of salad bar was added. 2 other major additions were a barbecue section and an outdoor seating area making the redesigned cafe more diverse in terms of dining facilities. Meanwhile, the kitchen and toilets remained in their original locations.
