The given diagrams showcase relevant changes made in the design map of college cafeteria. Out of two plans, first one illustrates traditional design of the cafe before renovation whereas second one represents the current design after some noticeable changes.
The counter of serving area was divided into different counters of hot meals and salad bar in the new design. Additionally, barbecue area was added in the outdoor patio with designated sitting areas. Moreover, staff dining rooms was redesigned as a coffee bar and take away food area. Direction of kitchen and toilet remained unchanged even after remodelling. Furthermore, regular bin in bottom right corner was upgraded to recycling bins in the new design of cafeteria.
In conclusion, the outdoor patio was added in the existing plan to expand the dining area with a barbecue counter. Serving area was bifurcated into hot meals counter and salad bar. Lastly, staff dining rooms were changed to designated coffee bar and take away food area. Overall planning was done to optimise the space and modernise the aesthetics.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the two plans, including the serving area, the addition of the outdoor patio, and the repurposing of the staff dining room. The overview is clear, and the main features are highlighted effectively. However, the response could be improved by better integrating the comparison between the two plans rather than listing changes in a somewhat mechanical fashion. While the main features are identified, the description of the 'kitchen and toilet' remaining unchanged is a good observation that adds to the completeness of the report. Overall, the task is addressed well, meeting the requirements for a clear summary of the provided information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, a body paragraph detailing the changes, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' are used to link ideas, although some of these transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the serving area to the outdoor patio and then to the staff facilities. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the detailed description, and the summary, which helps the reader follow the information easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with terms like 'bifurcated', 'optimise', 'renovation', and 'aesthetics' showing a good range. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'design map' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'regular bin' (which could be more precisely described). However, the range is sufficient to convey the information clearly and with some precision. The student demonstrates an ability to use topic-specific vocabulary related to floor plans and renovations, which is a positive aspect of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('The counter of serving area', 'Direction of kitchen') and minor subject-verb agreement issues ('staff dining rooms was'). Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the sentences are generally easy to follow. The control of punctuation is adequate, and the sentence variety is sufficient for the task. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on consistent article usage and ensuring subject-verb agreement in plural constructions.
