Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the new additions like the salad bar and outdoor seating. However, the overview is slightly weak as it focuses on listing changes rather than highlighting the most significant transformations. While the key features are identified, the description of the layout changes is sometimes imprecise, such as the vague reference to the 'north west side'. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly synthesises the most important trends (e.g., the expansion of dining options and the shift in kitchen layout) rather than just listing individual items.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into logical paragraphs, moving from an overview to specific details. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the phrase 'In the east side of the map' is a standard way to introduce information, but the transition between sentences could be smoother. Some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'which is now make more bigger', which disrupts the flow of information. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun referencing would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the reader to understand the changes described. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'make more bigger' instead of 'enlarged' and 'write down recycling bin' which is unclear. The use of 'coffee bar' and 'kitchen' is appropriate, but the range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise descriptive verbs and adjectives related to spatial changes, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'transformed', or 'installed', rather than relying on basic verbs like 'built' or 'make'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there are number of changes were noticed' (incorrect passive construction), 'cafe before redesign, kitchen was situated' (missing articles), and 'which is now make more bigger' (incorrect verb form and comparative structure). While the meaning is generally conveyed, these persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence accuracy and article usage would be highly beneficial.
