Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features of the redesign, such as the new salad bar and the conversion of the dining area, the description lacks sufficient detail and development. The overview is present but could be more comprehensive. Because the response is under the required length, the information provided is inevitably limited, preventing a full exploration of the changes shown in the plans. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed analysis of the spatial changes and meet the minimum word count to allow for a thorough response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the use of 'To begain with' and 'Where as'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes clearly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the before and after states more fluidly. Improving the transition between the description of internal and external changes would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'redesigne', 'begain', 'caffee', 'northeastern', and 'frunt', which distract the reader. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'converted', 'preserved', and 'recycling bin', the overall control is weak. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accurate spelling and expanding your range of vocabulary to describe spatial relationships and changes more precisely, rather than relying on basic descriptive terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('multiple changes has occured') and article usage ('an college cafe'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors in punctuation and word order. For example, 'Salad bar in included in cafe at central west area' is grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions.
