Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the new additions like the outdoor seating, barbecue, and coffee bar. You successfully identify the unchanged areas, such as the kitchen. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesises the changes effectively. While you mention 'outstanding changes,' the description of the layout could be more precise. For example, the spatial relationships (e.g., 'northwest corner') are noted, but the comparison between the two plans could be more integrated. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant transformation, such as the shift from a simple seating area to a more diverse, multi-functional space.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from general changes to specific details. You use some cohesive devices like 'In general,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Similarly.' However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as 'In-addition we can spot.' The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the kitchen description and the outdoor seating could be better linked to show the contrast between the interior and exterior modifications. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate for a task of this nature.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redesigned,' 'adjacent,' and 'structures.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'today cafe shop' (should be 'the current cafe layout') and 'bins area' (should be 'bin area'). You also use 'than' instead of 'that' in the phrase 'structures than remained unchanged.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Incorporating more specific descriptive language for spatial changes would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the Kitchen it can be seen' (redundant pronoun) and 'Although the location of bins had not changed but they are now converted' (incorrect use of 'although' with 'but'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence construction and avoiding redundant pronouns will help improve your accuracy.
