Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the additions and the areas that remained unchanged. You have successfully identified key changes such as the new salad bar, barbecue, and outdoor seating. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview of the most significant changes. While you mention that the cafe has undergone 'significant redevelopment,' you could improve by grouping the information more logically (e.g., focusing on the expansion of dining facilities versus the retention of service areas). Some details, such as the 'new stall' on the right, are slightly vague. Overall, the response addresses the requirements of the task well, providing a clear summary of the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of changes. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Overall' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly mechanical transitions or repetitive phrasing, such as the repeated use of 'has not been changed' or 'remain unchanged.' Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher level of cohesion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the overview, and the specific details of the layout changes.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment,' 'acquired,' and 'original features.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'outdoor sealing' (likely meaning seating) and 'on the north direction' (should be 'in the north' or 'on the northern side'). Additionally, the phrase 'after redesigned it' is grammatically awkward and lexically imprecise. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing spatial layouts and ensure that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'how college cafe has changed' (missing an article), 'the cafe has undergo' (incorrect verb form), and 'tables and chairs has not been changed' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve your control over complex sentence structures.
