Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the cafe renovation, such as the addition of outdoor seating, the barbecue area, and the internal layout changes. However, the description is somewhat informal and lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. For instance, referring to the cafe as 'boring' is subjective and inappropriate for a data summary. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' states could be more structured and analytical. The report would benefit from a more objective tone and a clearer focus on spatial changes rather than qualitative judgments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, such as the jump from the kitchen area to the 'boring' nature of the cafe. The use of linking words is limited and sometimes misused, for example, 'combined all these changes' is not a standard way to introduce a concluding summary. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information, making the overall progression of ideas feel somewhat disjointed and mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors that occasionally impede clarity. Phrases like 'before reconstructed' and 'there is some up of important salad bar' are non-standard and difficult to interpret. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and the attempt to use more descriptive language is often inaccurate, such as 'enviornment friendly' (spelling error) and 'considerably alot better'. To improve, you should focus on using precise terminology related to maps and layouts, such as 'relocated', 'extended', 'installed', or 'converted', rather than informal descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the following maps illustrates', 'toilet still remains'), missing articles ('before reconstructed'), and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in basic punctuation and word order. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in almost every sentence prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
