Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarise the changes shown in the college cafe plans by mentioning features such as the kitchen, toilets, bin, salad bar, and outdoor seating. However, the task achievement is significantly compromised because the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains only 124 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. Furthermore, the information is reported with a lack of clarity, numerous inaccuracies in reading the diagram, and minimal development. Major trends are not adequately overviewed, and comparisons are vague and disjointed, aligning the performance with a Band 4.0 descriptor level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear overall progression and logical organisation. While the writer attempts to use transitional markers such as "over all", "firstly", and "however", the paragraphing is extremely poor, with fragmented and run-on sentences that make the text difficult to follow. Referencing and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or inadequate, for instance, repeating phrases like "are not change" multiple times rather than maintaining a smooth flow of information. The structure does not meet the standards required for higher bands, resulting in a Band 4.0 score for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and restricted. The student relies heavily on simple terms and makes frequent word-choice and spelling errors, such as "diffrence", "additionlly", "avialbale", and "envirement". There is no successful attempt to use less common lexical items, and the frequent errors in spelling and collocation occasionally strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning. This limits the vocabulary performance to a Band 4.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences with frequent, systemic errors. There are constant issues with subject-verb agreement and passive/active voice construction, such as "the kitchen and toilet are not change" and "cafe was not provide presentation". Punctuation is faulty, and capitalisation is often incorrect at the beginning of sentences. Because errors are frequent and pervasive throughout the text, impeding readability and meaning, this warrants a Band 4.0 score.
