Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to describe the main features of the two plans showing the college cafe before and after redesign. While some key changes are mentioned, such as the kitchen remaining in its principle position and staff dining rooms transforming into a take away food and coffee bar, the summary is incomplete and disorganized. Important details like the expansion of the seating area, the addition of a new entrance, and the overall reconfiguration of space are either missed or described with confusing phrasing, such as 'generic maximize area in centre'. The overview sentence attempts to summarize the general changes ('cafe undervent significant mordernization'), but overall the response falls short of fully selecting and reporting all main features, leading to a Band 5.0 rating.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows an attempt to structure the information with an introduction, an overview paragraph, and a body paragraph. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sentence construction and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are abrupt, such as moving directly from the kitchen description to 'A seriving room get replaced by hot meals' without appropriate linking. Furthermore, paragraphing is not used effectively; the entire body of the report is clumped into one dense block after the overview. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between features on the plan. This level of cohesion and organization aligns with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite limited and contains numerous spelling and word-choice errors that impede communication. Examples include 'illustrates' combined with a plural subject ('plans below illustrates'), 'collage' instead of 'college', 'undervent' for 'underwent', 'mordernization', 'accesible', 'seriving', 'aminities', 'barbeque', and 'subsquently'. While the student attempts less common items like 'mordernization' and 'sustainability', the frequent spelling mistakes ('v' for 'w', missing letters) and inappropriate collocations ('generic maximize area') restrict the lexical score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the attempt to use task-specific vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and simple sentences are frequently marred by errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'plans below illustrates', 'kitchen remain', 'A seriving room get replaced', and 'Toilet get preserved'. Complex sentence attempts are often ungrammatical or awkwardly phrased, such as 'cafe has transformed in avery suitable manner so that it will make a significant change'. Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and run-on phrasing. Because errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning, a Band 4.5 is warranted, which corresponds to a Band 4.5 or 5.0 descriptor profile; Band 5.0 is awarded as meaning is still largely discernible.
