The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The map of cafe redesigning before and after has many obvious changes mainly it has more facilities then before.
If we take a look to an old whch is just consist of limited sections and facilities which might not be suitable for students to explore many options while they are having a break. for example the map shows only 4 sectons and a bin. However the staff dining room is differentiated from others which might not be needed.
Since the cafe is redesigned the map shows us major changes. Mainly the addition of Takeaway, coffee bar, salad bar, hot meals, barbeque and also outdoor seating. whereas these changes has been advantageous to many college students and faculty. Moreover the recycle bin section has been increased so that all the waste can be manage easily.
Further on multiple entries have been added in a way that they are nearby to specific sections with out just moving around to the whole cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the two plans, noting key additions such as the takeaway, coffee bar, salad bar, hot meals, barbeque, and outdoor seating. However, the task achievement is limited by a lack of a proper overview and some inaccurate reporting of specific details (for example, stating that the staff dining room was removed or questioning its necessity). Furthermore, the analysis of spatial changes lacks precision and depth, failing to fully compare the layout before and after the redesign. While the main differences are broadly identified, the information is somewhat underdeveloped, keeping it at a Band 5.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, which helps establish a basic structure, but overall progression is hindered by poor referencing and weak logical links. Sentences like 'If we take a look to an old whch is just consist of limited sections...' demonstrate a confusing and disjointed flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, such as 'whereas these changes has been advantageous' and 'Further on multiple entries have been added'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is faulty, leading to a choppy and occasionally confusing read that aligns best with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent lexical and collocational errors such as 'map of cafe redesigning', 'an old whch is just consist', and 'recycle bin section has been increased so that all the waste can be manage easily'. There are limited attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are marred by inaccuracies in word choice and form (e.g., 'manage' instead of 'managed'). While the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, the restricted range and frequent errors place this firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or awkwardly constructed complex sentences that are frequently faulty. Examples include 'If we take a look to an old whch is just consist of limited sections...' and 'whereas these changes has been advantageous to many college students'. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, involving subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'changes has'), tense usage, and missing prepositions. These errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to Band 4.5, as control over grammar is weak.
