Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the maps of the college cafe before and after the redesign. However, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 149 words against the required minimum of 150 words. Furthermore, the selection and reporting of main features are quite basic and lack detailed comparisons. Phrases like 'redesigned many places such as serving area, staff dining room and Bin' demonstrate a partial and somewhat confused overview of the spatial changes. While an overall trend is mentioned, key features such as the removal of the staff dining room and the expansion of the seating area are not fully or accurately reported. Consequently, this falls under the Band 5 descriptor for failing to fully address all parts of the task and providing limited, under-developed information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into short paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall cohesion are frequently faulty. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting a sentence with 'In today. when compared with its initial plan' or 'Furthermore, slightly down and turn right was staff dining room.' Referencing is unclear at times, making it difficult to follow the spatial layout of the cafe. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organisation of information within paragraphs lacks clarity and smooth transitions. These issues align closely with Band 5, where organisation is present, but overall progression is unclear and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent word choice and collocation errors. Examples include 'redesigned many places', 'construction of hot meal', and 'build new building department'. Words are often used in unidiomatic ways, such as referring to the outdoor seating area as 'balcony with new outdoor sitting area respectively'. While the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, the lack of precision and awkward phrasing restrict the score. This sits comfortably within Band 5, featuring a limited, minimally adequate range of vocabulary with noticeable errors that occasionally impede smooth reading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are multiple grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing subjects, incorrect prepositions, and awkward verb forms (e.g., 'the modification aims at construction', 'In the North part of cafe was serving area have many items', and 'In the south side of cafe build new room'). Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capitalisation at the start of sentences (e.g., 'the modification', 'Moreover, In'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and clearly reflect the Band 5 descriptor for grammar.
