Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the college cafe plans before and after redesigning, noting key changes such as the addition of outdoor seating, a coffee bar, and a salad bar. However, the text falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 147 words, which incurs a penalty. Furthermore, some information is slightly inaccurate or colloquial, such as referring to the student themselves ('so that I can cover huge quantity of people'). While overview statements are present, the overall development is limited, leading to a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organised into several paragraphs, and an overall summary is attempted at the beginning. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic, with very short and disjointed paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately in places, such as 'Susequently, for the people who do not want dine in'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. There is a discernible progression of ideas, but the overall mechanical application of cohesion and punctuation issues (such as missing spaces after commas) places this at a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several awkward word choices and spelling/morphological errors, such as 'prior redesigning' instead of 'prior to redesigning', 'seatings' instead of 'seating', and 'The today look more better'. Less common lexical items are attempted ('redesigned', 'recycling bins'), but lack precise control. Communication is generally maintained despite these errors, matching the band 5 descriptor for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as article omissions and misuse ('The cafe has redesigned in a modern way' instead of 'has been redesigned', 'Staff dining rooms has been replaced' where subject-verb agreement fails). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the band 5 profile.
