Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response successfully covers the main features of the college cafe before and after the redesign, presenting a clear overview of the changes such as the introduction of a hot meal counter, a salad bar, and an outdoor seating area. The student makes relevant comparisons between the two plans, fulfilling the core requirements of Academic Task 1. However, the development of some details is slightly limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in reporting specific features, which places this performance at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into paragraphs that group related features together, such as the introduction paragraph, body paragraphs detailing specific spatial transformations, and concluding details. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'Looking more specifically', and 'Moreover', though some referencing is a bit mechanical or faulty (e.g. 'on the place of serving area'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, resulting in a clear logical organization throughout, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items related to spatial changes such as 'redesigned', 'transformed', and 'spacious'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including typos like 'hiw', 'tge', 'tankes', 'accordinfmg', and 'established' used incorrectly as 'in established'. These errors do not impede communication but show a lack of precision, aligning closely with the Band 5.5 or 6.0 profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The strategy demonstrates a cafe of a college in past but further it was redesigned and illustrate hiw it looks in present.' There are several grammatical errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms, including 'in past', 'on the place', 'the kitchen remain', and 'area fir bin'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede overall communication, supporting a Band 5.5 score.
