Student answer (Band 6.5)
The figures below display a cafe in the college before it was restructured and how it looks at present.
Overall, most changes were made in the Staff dining room and kitchen area, which were diversified into many other facilities. Furthermore, outdoor seating was planned in the new design.
The kitchen and the serving areas for all kinds of food and drink were very congested in the old structure. In the new design, the salad bar was separated from the kitchen area and shifted to a new station on the west side of the building adjacent to former entrance. The barbecue section was moved outside the building where outdoor seating was established. The rest of the kitchen along with the hot meals section remained at the old location.
New entrance or exit gates were installed separately for the customers using the outdoor dining. The Staff dining room changed into two different section of Takeaway food and Coffee bar. The new recycling bins were placed near the former entrance. The cafe became very spacious after the remodeling.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear overview of the changes and detailing specific alterations such as the conversion of the staff dining rooms and the addition of outdoor seating. The visual data is reported accurately, noting features like the salad bar and barbecue area. The response is well-grounded in the provided diagram without major omissions or factual errors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
Information and ideas are logically organised with a clear overall progression. The response is appropriately divided into paragraphs, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing specific spatial changes. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to guide the reader through the comparison, although transitions between paragraphs could sometimes be smoother to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing terms such as 'diversified', 'congested', and 'adjacent'. While there are a few minor lexical inaccuracies or slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'staff dining room changed into two different section' instead of 'sections', the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the information clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures with reasonable control. Examples such as 'the salad bar was separated from the kitchen area and shifted to a new station' demonstrate an ability to handle multi-clause sentences. Grammatical errors are relatively infrequent and do not impede communication, though occasional minor slip-ups in pluralisation or preposition choice persist.
