Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes shown in the two maps of the college cafe. While the candidate mentions several key alterations—such as the conversion of staff dining rooms into a take away food area and coffee bar, the addition of a salad bar, and the introduction of outdoor seating and a barbecue—the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner. The overview is weak, consisting of fragmented and grammatically flawed sentences like 'Overall,There are multiple things that change now according to past.' Furthermore, some spatial descriptions are inaccurate or confusing, such as locating a salad bar 'outside the hotmeals'. The response does cover the main features of the visual data, but the lack of a clear, coherent summary and underdeveloped comparisons prevent it from achieving a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into short paragraphs, attempting to separate the introduction, overall trend, and detailed comparisons. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by severe grammatical errors, poor punctuation, and abrupt transitions (e.g., 'To expound the map in details', 'on the other hand , in today cafe a there is abig kitchen'). Cohesive devices are either missing, repetitive, or misused, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information smoothly. Paragraphing is present visually, but the internal organization of ideas lacks clear cohesion, resulting in a score at the lower end of the band.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and heavily relies on lifting terms directly from the prompt and visual transcription (e.g., 'kitchen', 'hot meals', 'salad bar', 'coffee bar'). There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'collage' instead of 'college', 'redesinded' instead of 'redesigned', 'dians' or 'dianing' instead of 'dining', 'abig' instead of 'a big', and 'barbuiecue' instead of 'barbecue'. Word choice is frequently unnatural or imprecise, such as 'seeting' and 'foe go outside'. The lexical range is limited and inadequate for a standard academic response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text is plagued by basic sentence structure errors, missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and punctuation issues. Examples include 'how it was before redesinded and how its look today' and 'there is a many doors in cafe foe go outside'. Simple sentences often contain errors, and attempts at more complex structures are either absent or grammatically faulty. Punctuation is haphazard, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors cause significant strain for the reader.
