Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response falls significantly short of the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, containing only 85 words and trailing off mid-sentence. Consequently, the description of the visual data is incomplete and underdeveloped. While the student attempts an overview noting general changes and mentions several specific features such as the coffee bar, salad bar, and outdoor seating, the severe under-length prevents a full exploration of the task requirements. To achieve a higher band score, it is essential to write at least 150 words, ensuring a more thorough comparison of the layout changes between the past and present college cafe.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The response attempts to organise information by starting with an overall summary and then beginning a detailed breakdown. However, the abrupt cutoff mid-sentence severely disrupts the logical flow and progression. Paragraphing is basic and lacks proper development. Cohesive devices are used minimally (e.g., 'From an overall analysis', 'while after redesign'), but referencing is occasionally weak. To improve, the student needs to complete the essay, develop clear paragraphs for different sections of the visual data, and ensure smooth transitions between ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is generally basic and contains noticeable spelling and typographical errors, such as 'despict' instead of 'depicts', 'colllege', 'kithen', 'sitting', and 'bar salad'. There is some attempt to use task-specific vocabulary ('facilities', 'redesign', 'recycling bin'), but the range is limited and constrained by the short length of the text. To enhance lexical resource, the student should focus on accurate spelling, expand their range of functional vocabulary for describing maps, and avoid simple word repetitions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The text demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences with noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors. Examples include 'it is an evident that, the cafe has been change', where articles and verb forms are used incorrectly. Punctuation is also erratic, with misplaced commas and spacing errors (e.g., 'analysis,it is'). Because the essay cuts off prematurely, it is difficult to fully assess complex structure control, but the frequent basic errors impede overall fluency.
