Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, standing at only 78 words. Due to this severe under-length, the task cannot be fully addressed. While the student attempts to give an overview by stating that the old cafe was redesigned with modern features, no specific details or comparisons of the spatial changes shown in the plans (such as the addition of the outdoor seating, salad bar, or coffee bar) are reported. Consequently, this falls well short of the task requirements and is rated at Band 3.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is extremely brief, consisting of only a few disconnected sentences split into very short paragraphs. Although there is a basic attempt to structure the writing with an introductory overview phrase ('Overall, it can be seen that...'), the overall arrangement lacks clear progression and development. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, and referencing between ideas is weak, which limits readability and logical flow. This aligns with the descriptors for Band 4.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, featuring frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'facalities' instead of 'facilities'. Phrases like 'more comfort provider for consumers' are unnatural and lack precision. While the student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'redesigned' and 'modern feature', the limited range and frequent inaccuracies constrain the response to a Band 4.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying on simple or poorly formed complex sentences. There are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'which had old and limited facalities' and 'redesigned cafe is more attractive and more comfort provider'. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capitalisation. Because the grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally impede clarity, the performance fits Band 4.0.
