Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the two maps, noting key changes such as the addition of the salad bar, the replacement of the staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and take-away section, and the inclusion of outdoor seating and a barbecue. However, the descriptions are often imprecise, and the overview lacks clarity. The writer mentions some changes correctly, such as 'kitchen remains in same place', but misinterprets certain spatial arrangements and fails to provide a well-structured summary of the overall transformations. The detail is somewhat limited and the development of ideas is restricted by frequent inaccuracies in describing the visual data. This places the response in Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organisation, dividing the text into an introduction, a discussion of the 'before' map, and a discussion of the 'today' map. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical sequencing of ideas, and paragraphing is poorly handled with run-on sentences and a lack of proper structure. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or inaccurate (for example, 'As we see that befor map', 'However befor redesinging', and 'Now the updated version'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial comparisons smoothly. This performance corresponds to Band 4.5, which is rounded to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and restricted to simple terms (e.g., 'big', 'better', 'place', 'added'). There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'costumers' instead of 'customers', 'befor map was only offers a specifics vibes', and 'Bin area convert in recycling it toilet is same place'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary fail due to inaccurate forms and awkward phrasing. These frequent lexical errors and limited range cause strain for the reader, fitting the Band 4 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed compound sentences. Attempts at complex sentences are consistently faulty (e.g., 'As we see that befor map was only offers...'). There are severe issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, missing articles, and punctuation throughout the response (e.g., 'Tables and chairs has seperated', 'staff dinning room in two section'). Grammatical errors are dense and frequently impede communication, aligning with the Band 4 descriptors.
