Student answer (Band 5.0)

The two maps compare the development of a college cafe that how it looks before and now after redesigning.

Overall, there are addition of several facilities including take away corner, outer seating arrangements, saled and coffee bars. Some of these amenities are rearranged now to give a new look to the cafe.

Before redesigning, kitchen was located in the north-west corner of the cafe along with the serving area counter for food and drinks. Moreover, there was staff dinning rooms in the middle of the cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response falls significantly short of the word count requirement, containing only 94 words against the required 150 minimum. Because the essay cuts off abruptly in the middle of a sentence ('Afyter redesigning, serving counter has been remove. Moreo'), the overview and body paragraphs are severely incomplete. While the student correctly identifies some initial features such as the kitchen and staff dining rooms, the truncation prevents a full comparison of the changes, leading to a partial and underdeveloped response that aligns with Band 4.0 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into logical paragraphs initially, attempting an overview and body details. However, because the text cuts off abruptly, Coherence and Cohesion are heavily disrupted. Basic cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Before redesigning' are used to structure the opening, but the lack of completion and the abrupt termination at the end of the text prevent the logical progression expected at higher bands. Paragraphing is initiated but remains underdeveloped due to length.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts some task-appropriate vocabulary such as 'redesigned', 'facilities', and 'amenities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'saled' instead of 'salad', 'dinning' instead of 'dining', and grammatical slip-ups like 'that how it looks'. The limited vocabulary used due to the short length of the text means the range is restricted, though communication of the initial points is generally understandable before the abrupt ending.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The two maps compare the development of a college cafe that how it looks...'. However, there are structural errors ('that how it looks before and now after redesigning') and spelling errors in verb forms ('has been remove'). Furthermore, the text is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which heavily limits the demonstration of a wide grammatical range.
