Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given plan shows the college cafe design before and after redesigned plan. When comparing above plan there are several changes happened in the plan. The first plan shows only simple cafe design and new plan shows proper arragments in the plan.

First plan serving all food and drink together and there are no hot meals arranged. But in the resigned plan it was arranged in the plan.According to the plan one there was only a staff dining rooms and toilets in this plan. But in redesigned plan there are take away food are and coffee bar area next to the kitchen. Also salad bar and barbecue areas added to the new plan. And there is a new outdoor seating area.

New re designed plan was arranged with a proper idea and it was very good plan when comparing to the pervious plan. There is a quality arrangement and this redesigned plan will be successful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main changes between the two plans, noting the addition of the salad bar, barbecue area, and outdoor seating, as well as the conversion of the staff dining rooms into a take-away food area and coffee bar. However, the description is very basic, lacks a clear overview paragraph, and contains inaccurate generalisations and repetition. Key spatial relationships are either vague or missing. It satisfies the basic requirements of comparing the two layouts, but the development of ideas and reporting of features remain limited, aligning it with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into three brief paragraphs, attempting a rudimentary structure with transitional words like 'First' and 'Also'. However, the overall organisation feels disjointed and lacks a clear, logical progression. There are issues with referencing and cohesion—for instance, sentences like 'When comparing above plan there are several changes happened' reflect awkward linking. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical flow between sentences is weak and repetitive, characteristic of Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive (e.g., repeating words like 'plan', 'cafe', 'area', and 'arranged'). There are awkward word choices and collocation errors, such as 'resigned plan' (intended to mean redesigned), 'arragments', and 'take away food are'. The student attempts some topic-specific terms like 'salad bar', 'coffee bar', and 'barbecue', but the overall lexical range is limited and inadequate for a higher band, holding the response at a Band 5 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text contains a mixture of simple sentences and flawed attempts at more complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout, including missing prepositions, incorrect verb forms ('before it was redesigned' is fine, but the student writes 'before and after redesigned plan' and 'there are several changes happened'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is basic. Because these errors are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader, the grammar performance best fits Band 5.
