Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the college cafe before and after the redesign, including key transformations and additions such as the outdoor seating, salad bar, and coffee bar. An overview is attempted in the opening paragraph, noting dramatic changes and areas that remained intact (tables, chairs, and toilets). However, the overview lacks precision and conciseness, and some details are slightly imprecise, such as describing the kitchen counter transformation incorrectly. While the core comparisons are present, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and affected by fractured phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is structured into four paragraphs, attempting an overall logical flow from general changes to specific spatial alterations. However, the progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, incorrect punctuation, and disjointed sentence boundaries (e.g., "Such as; outdoor seating and hot meals noticibally, tables and chairs and toilets remained intact"). Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, and referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships smoothly. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better control.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'noticibally', 'outerside', 'eshtablished', 'wes', and 'searving'. While the writer attempts some less common items related to the map features (e.g., 'amenities', 'recycling bins'), the persistent errors in spelling and awkward word forms ("staff dining rooms has converted", "bin has upgraded") cause strain for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical repertoire.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writing shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and flawed attempts at complex constructions. There are frequent, noticeable errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., "some stuff has redesigned", "Staff dining rooms has converted"), prepositions (e.g., "in the outerside", "In the region of wes"), and punctuation (misused commas, semicolons, and lower-case letters at the start of sentences). These frequent grammatical inaccuracies impede communication and restrict the score to the lower bands.
