Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to compare the college café before its redesign and how it looks now, meeting the minimum word requirement with 169 words. However, the content is heavily narrative and speculative rather than analytical and objective, introducing invented information such as 'now today cafe is very popular' and 'costumer give feedback'. While the writer identifies some key changes—such as the addition of outdoor seating, a salad bar, a barbecue, and a coffee bar—the overview is vague and fails to effectively synthesise the main trends or spatial transformations. Important details like the kitchen and toilets remaining in place are omitted, and the overall task response remains underdeveloped and subjective, aligning closely with Band 4.5 to 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The text is divided into four short paragraphs, attempting a basic structure with introductory and contrastive elements ('On the one hand', 'On the other hand'). However, the logical progression is weak and confused by numerous mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices. Referencing is frequently unclear, and sentences often lack smooth transitions. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is faulty due to poor sentence construction and disjointed flow, which makes the overall arrangement difficult to follow. This demonstrates features of Band 4.0 to 4.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on direct copying of prompt words and visual labels (e.g., 'cafe', 'kitchen', 'toilets', 'outdoor seating'). There are frequent spelling errors ('intresting', 'caf', 'develpment', 'forexample', 'coofer', 'spalical', 'sevice', 'thic', 'costumer', 'befer') and incorrect word choices. The lexical range is limited and inadequate for expressing precise spatial relationships or changes, straining the reader throughout and placing the response firmly at Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the response. The text contains very few error-free sentences, featuring persistent basic errors in word order, tense, prepositions, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'The visual plans a college cafe before it was redesigned and cafe today', 'In before redesign cafe was its looking simple cafe compare to today cafe is to popular'). Complex structures are rarely attempted, and when simple structures are used, frequent grammatical errors cause significant strain and impede comprehension, warranting a Band 4.0.
