The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two maps illustrate the layout of a college cafe before and after its recent redesign.

The redesign resulted in some significant changes which not only diversified the whole cafe but also opened the door for more financial benefits.

The kitchen in the back and the entry doors remain untouched along with the toilets. While the bins were replaced with better and more eco-friendly recycling bins.

Furthermore, the food and drink serving areas were divided into different bars. The redesign seperated the hot meals section from drinks and relocated the take away section and coffee bar in place of the staff dining rooms. Instead of everything being cramped into one bar, they formed a seperate bar for salad right outside the kitchen where the food is prepared.

Moreover, they have also set a barbecue bar right outside the cafe along with an outdoor seating area, connected to the cafe through two doors.

Overall, the cafe has gone through a massive expansion plan which changed its outlook completely.
