Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The candidate manages to cover several key changes between the two plans, noting the conversion of the staff dining rooms into take-away and coffee facilities, the addition of the salad bar, outdoor seating, and the barbecue area. However, there are notable flaws in the selection and reporting of information. For instance, the phrase 'Serving area evolve into Hot meals because it has popularity' relies on speculation and subjective commentary ('popularity') rather than objective reporting of the visual data. Furthermore, some spatial descriptions are inaccurate or vague, such as claiming the kitchen is in the south-west corner when it remains in the upper-left (north-west) area. The overview is also very weak, consisting of subjective opinion rather than a clear summary of main trends. Overall, the response addresses the prompt only partially due to speculative commentary and inaccuracies.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into a single block of continuous writing rather than clear paragraphs, which severely restricts the overall structure. Progression is difficult to follow because sentences jump haphazardly between different parts of the cafe without a logical spatial or thematic sequence (e.g., jumping from the north wall to the west, then outside, then back to the east and toilets). Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, such as 'Meanwhile', 'At Western side', and 'In the east bin is replaced'. Referencing is also weak in places, leading to disjointed sentences. While the general message is partly intelligible, the lack of paragraphing and poor management of cohesion limit the score to a Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is a mix of basic and attempted higher-level items. The writer successfully employs words and phrases taken directly from the prompt or standard topographical terms, such as 'remodelled', 'take away food', and 'recycling bins'. However, there are numerous word choice errors, spelling mistakes ('cofee', 'enumirates', 'suficient'), and awkward collocations ('construction of Salad Bar create a more enhancement', 'layout enumirates every location'). Words are frequently used with incorrect parts of speech, such as 'enhancement' used as a noun phrase modifier or complement in an ungrammatical way. The lexical range is limited and noticeable errors occasionally impede the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures and suffers from frequent, basic errors. Subject-verb agreement is frequently violated (e.g., 'The plans illustrates', 'Staff dining rooms turns', 'barbecue and outdoor seating make'). Articles are often omitted or misused (e.g., 'at the outdoor', 'In South west corner kitchen is also having its on place'). Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex structures or prepositional phrases result in severe grammatical breakdown. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing commas in introductory phrases and run-on structures. These persistent errors cause frequent difficulty for the reader.
