Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers the main changes between the two plans, noting the additions of the salad bar, barbecue, and outdoor seating, as well as the conversion of the staff dining rooms into a takeaway food counter and coffee bar. However, the overview is somewhat clunky and lacks a polished synthesis of the most salient spatial reorganisations. While all major features are touched upon, the description leans towards listing changes rather than seamlessly grouping them to give a fully developed overview. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text is arranged into paragraphs, moving from an introductory overview to specific details regarding the western and northern sides, followed by a concluding paragraph about the outdoor modifications. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'On the other hand', but referencing and transitions can be a bit mechanical or repetitive ('Overall... Overall...'). Paragraphing is present and attempts to separate general from specific features, yet the logical progression could be smoother to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for describing a map transformation, using terms like 'reconstructed', 'modifications', and 'demolished'. However, there are noticeable lexical and collocational inaccuracies, such as 'outdoor sittings' instead of 'outdoor seating', 'tiolet' instead of 'toilet', and 'recycle bin' instead of 'recycling bins'. Vocabulary is adequate for the task, but errors in word formation and spelling keep this criterion at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The map shows the college cafe that how it was reconstructed...' which contains a structural error. Other awkward phrasings appear, such as 'by comparing two of them hot meals...' and 'remains same at their positions'. While punctuation is generally functional, grammatical errors occur frequently across complex structures, though they do not completely impede communication. This corresponds to a Band 5.5.
