Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarise the main changes between the two plans, identifying several key transformations such as the addition of the salad bar, outdoor seating, and the conversion of staff dining rooms. However, the response falls significantly short of the word count requirement of 150 words, containing only 119 words. Furthermore, there are some minor inaccuracies or unsupported details in the data reporting, such as specifying '5 tables' and a specific capacity of '26 people' which are not explicitly stated on the provided plans. Because the length requirement is not met and certain details are over-elaborated or inaccurate, the task achievement is constrained to a lower band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response makes an attempt at logical organisation by providing a brief introduction followed by an overview and some body details. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the text consists mostly of single, short sentences or very brief paragraphs. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, such as 'Overall,' and 'Morever,' (which also contains a spelling error). Reference links between sentences are occasionally clunky, such as 'In compare to old cafe, staff dinning rooms has been replaced...', which affects the overall flow and logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items related to architectural changes and facilities, such as 'rehabilitaion', 'facilities', and 'redevelopment'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'In compare to old cafe' instead of 'Compared to the old café', and spelling mistakes like 'dinning', 'take way', 'Morever', and 'recyclebin'. These lexical errors and awkward phrasings limit the score for this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and a few passive structures, such as 'has been introduced', 'has been replaced', and 'has been installed'. However, there are persistent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and singular/plural consistency (e.g., 'new facilities has been introduced', 'staff dinning rooms has been replaced'). Punctuation and capitalization are also somewhat erratic (e.g., 'Overall, The cafe'). The range of complex structures remains limited and frequently flawed by these agreement and form errors.
