Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The student attempts to describe the changes shown in the two maps of the college cafe, but the response suffers from major issues in spatial interpretation and accuracy. For example, the student states that 'at the right side there had serving area' and that the staff dining rooms were at the middle, which misrepresents the original layout. Furthermore, the description of the current layout contains numerous inaccuracies, such as placing the salad bar at the 'right bottom' (it is actually on the western wall) and misidentifying the positions of various features. Although there is an attempt at an overview in the first paragraph, the lack of accurate data reporting and the misreading of key spatial relationships mean the response falls below the requirements for higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The organization of the response is extremely fragmented and lacks a logical progression. The essay is broken down into very short, disjointed fragments and repetitive bullet-like sections, such as 'Firstly, when the cafe before redesign' and 'Secondly cafe today', followed by another redundant sentence attempting the same introduction. Paragraphing is not used effectively; instead, sentences are broken into isolated lines without proper transitions or cohesive devices. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the various changes on the plans.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple functional words and basic spatial terms such as 'top side', 'middle', 'bottom side', and 'left side'. There are repeated instances of incorrect lexical choices and awkward phrasing, such as 'when the cafe was redesign at the rightside r there had serving area' and 'It had convert into take away food'. The range of vocabulary is severely limited and inadequate for discussing visual data effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are persistent errors in verb tenses and voice, such as 'how it look now', 'the cafe was redesign', 'there had serving area', and 'it had convert'. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with missing spaces and comma splices throughout the text. Complex sentence structures are largely absent, and the high frequency of basic errors significantly impairs communication.
