Student answer (Band 6.5)
The grapg illustrate tow cafe in college before the reestblised and how to looks after that.
Overall, the café has been considerably redesigned to provide more facilities for customers. The most noticeable changes are the introduction of a coffee bar, a takeaway-food area, a salad bar and outdoor seating, while the former staff dining rooms have been removed.
In the original layout, the kitchen occupied the upper-left corner and contained a serving area for all food and drinks. Two staff dining rooms were located along the upper side of the main dining area. Most of the remaining space was occupied by tables and chairs. Toilets were situated in the bottom-right corner, while a bin was positioned near the right-hand wall.
In the present layout, the kitchen remains in the same position, but the former serving area has been replaced by a hot-meals section. The two staff dining rooms have been converted into a takeaway-food area and a coffee bar. A salad bar has also been added along the left-hand wall, and the previous bin has been replaced by recycling bins.
The most significant addition is the outdoor seating area, which has been created along the entire front of the café. A barbecue area has also been installed on the left side. The toilets remain in the same general location, although their entrance has been slightly altered.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by describing both the original layout and the current layout of the college cafe, highlighting key changes such as the introduction of a coffee bar, salad bar, and outdoor seating. An effective overview is provided in the second paragraph, summarising the main transformations. The information reported is accurate and well-grounded in the visual data, noting specific changes like the conversion of the staff dining rooms and the addition of the barbecue area. The response meets all the core requirements for Task Achievement, demonstrating a clear understanding of the visual information.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The writing exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs: an introduction with an overview, a description of the original layout, and details of the current layout. Cohesive devices such as 'In the original layout', 'In the present layout', and 'while' are used effectively to guide the reader through the spatial changes. Although there is a minor typo in the opening sentence ('grapg' and 'tow'), the overall structure and flow of information are handled very well, ensuring the text is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic task describing a map or plan. Useful lexical items such as 'considerably redesigned', 'introduction', 'converted', and 'significant addition' are employed effectively. There are a few noticeable spelling and word-choice errors in the opening sentence, such as 'grapg' (graph), 'tow' (two), 'reestblised' (re-established), and 'how to looks' (how it looks), but these are isolated to the introduction. The rest of the vocabulary is accurate and allows the reader to follow the descriptions of the architectural changes clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating passive voice and prepositional phrases successfully (e.g., 'the kitchen occupied the upper-left corner', 'has been replaced by a hot-meals section'). Grammatical control is generally good in the body paragraphs, with accurate verb tense shifts between the past tense for the original layout and the present/present perfect tense for the current layout. While there are grammatical and spelling slips in the opening sentence ('The grapg illustrate tow cafe'), the majority of the sentences in the body are accurate and do not impede communication.
