Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student covers all key features of the provided plans, successfully highlighting the main changes such as the new outdoor seating, barbecue area, and reconfiguration of the northern rooms into a coffee bar and take-away section. An overview is present at the beginning, noting the general regeneration of the coffee shop. However, the student incorrectly writes about future changes ('will be regenerated', 'will be reconstructed'), whereas the maps depict a comparison between the past and the present ('before it was redesigned and how it looks now'). Furthermore, some minor details like the exact seat count (26 seats) are not explicitly supported by the visual data. Despite these tense and minor detail inaccuracies, all main components of the task are adequately addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression from an introductory overview to specific body paragraphs detailing the southern and northern alterations. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different areas of the café. Cohesive devices are generally well managed (e.g., 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'In the southern area', 'The second noticeable development'), although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional awkward phrasing creates minor bumps in the flow. Overall, the essay maintains a coherent structure throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing a map or plan, utilizing terms such as 'predominant areas', 'regenerated', 'reconstructed', and 'separation'. There are some awkward lexical choices and collocation errors, such as 'barbecue field' instead of 'barbecue area', 'big expanding', and 'trash bin' instead of 'bin'. While attempts are made to use less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in word choice prevent the score from reaching a higher band. However, these errors do not impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are notable grammatical errors, particularly regarding tense consistency (using future tenses like 'will be' for a comparison of past and present plans). Other errors include awkward passive voice constructions and preposition misuse, such as 'moved in the space where the staff dining room were placed'. While simple sentences are generally accurate, complex structures often contain errors that occasionally distract the reader.
